Jubilee Path Walk
About
This walk takes you along the elevated Jubilee Path above Penmaenmawr on the North Wales coast. The path was constructed in 1887 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. You can start the walk from the parking area located at the end of Mountain Lane, 2 large stone pillars mark the entrance. The trail then heads north west before bending round to the east and creating a circular loop around Foel Lus. Along the way there's wonderful views towards the sea and the mountains of the Snowdonia National Park. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, the 6.0-km circular trail takes an average of 2 h 1 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking, running, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome and may be off-lead in some areas, but please keep in mind that you may encounter free-roaming sheep along the way, so leads are advised. Starting in Penmaenmawr, the trail winds up Mountain Lane, joining the Jubilee Walk as it circles around Y Foel Lus at the 240m contour line. The Jubilee Walk was built in 1887 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria and, on a clear day, there wonderful views over the surrounding hills and the North Wales Coast as make your way round. At the end of the Jubilee Walk, just as the path begins to head south, you could make a detour to the summit of Y Foel Lus by taking the path up to the top and rejoin the trail down the other side to return to Penmaenmawr. There are also a couple of benches placed along the path to take a break as you enjoy the scenery. This is a beautiful area for a walk at any time of year, but particularly when the hills are covered in heather.
