About

Betws-y-Coed, Conwy LL24 0AH

Betws-y-Coed is the prettiest village in Snowdonia — a Victorian resort at the confluence of three rivers, surrounded by forests and mountains. The village has been drawing visitors since the 19th century when it became fashionable with landscape artists, and the combination of stone bridges, river walks, and mountain scenery still makes it the natural base for exploring northern Snowdonia. The Swallow Falls just outside the village is the most visited waterfall in Wales — a series of cascades through a narrow gorge. The Fairy Glen upstream is even more atmospheric — a deep, narrow gorge of mossy rocks and dark pools. The Gwydir Forest surrounds the village with walking and mountain biking trails. Pont-y-Pair bridge in the centre of the village, where the River Llugwy tumbles through rocks, is a beautiful spot. The village is well set up for visitors — outdoor shops, cafés, a good selection of pubs and restaurants, and plenty of accommodation. It gets very busy in summer and on sunny weekends, but the forest trails quickly thin the crowds. The village is a gateway to the Snowdon massif, the Ogwen Valley, and the Carneddau mountains.
