About

Call Lane, Leeds LS1 7BR

The Leeds Corn Exchange is one of the finest Victorian commercial buildings in England — a stunning oval hall with a domed glass roof, designed by Cuthbert Brodrick in 1863. The interior is breathtaking — tiers of arcaded galleries rising around the oval floor, flooded with natural light from the dome above. It's now filled with independent shops, vintage boutiques, and food vendors. The shops lean towards alternative and independent — vintage clothing, vinyl records, streetwear, crystals, handmade jewellery, and comic books. It's the anti-shopping centre — no chains, no escalators, just a beautiful Victorian building filled with interesting small businesses. The food options include Japanese, Korean, and excellent coffee from several independent roasters. The building is right in the centre of town, opposite Kirkgate Market, and between them they represent two very different but equally excellent shopping experiences. The Corn Exchange hosts events including night markets and seasonal fairs. The architecture alone is worth a visit — stand in the centre of the oval floor and look up at the dome. It's one of the finest commercial interiors in the country.
