About
Open House London is one of the greatest free events in the capital — a weekend in September when hundreds of buildings that are normally closed to the public open their doors for free. Private houses, government buildings, architectural practices, historic interiors, modern skyscrapers, infrastructure sites, and hidden gardens all throw open their doors. The range is extraordinary — from the Foreign Office's grand staircase to a brutalist council estate, from a Victorian sewer to a Zaha Hadid penthouse. Some of the most exclusive addresses in London participate. The event has been running since 1992 and now includes over 800 buildings across all London boroughs. Some buildings require pre-booking (slots go live a few weeks before and popular buildings fill instantly), while others are drop-in. Plan your route in advance using the website and be prepared to queue at the most popular sites. The satisfaction of walking through normally locked doors into extraordinary spaces is addictive. Architecture lovers, history buffs, and the simply curious will all find something remarkable.
