About
The Voodoo Rooms occupy the ornate first-floor rooms above the Café Royal on West Register Street — a grand Victorian space with original plasterwork, chandeliers, and gilt mirrors that feels like a private members' club but is open to everyone. It's part cocktail bar, part live music venue, part late-night hangout, and it does all three with real style. The live music programming is strong — jazz, soul, funk, burlesque, and club nights across several interconnected rooms. The main room with its stage and dance floor hosts regular live acts, while the smaller rooms have their own character and atmosphere. The cocktails are well-made and reasonably priced for the surroundings. The Voodoo Rooms really come alive from about 9pm onwards, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. It's popular with a slightly older, music-loving crowd who appreciate the atmosphere and the quality of the programming. The door staff are friendly. Dress however you like — the venue has style enough for everyone. One of Edinburgh's most characterful nights out.
