Parade Gardens
About
Parade Gardens is a small, immaculate public garden on the banks of the River Avon in the centre of Bath that offers one of the best views of Pulteney Bridge and the horseshoe weir. The gardens are beautifully maintained with seasonal flower beds, a bandstand, and perfectly placed benches for watching the world go by — or more specifically, watching the river cascade over the elegant Georgian weir. The gardens charge a small admission fee in summer (free in winter), which keeps them calmer and better maintained than most city parks. The bandstand hosts concerts on summer Sunday afternoons. Deckchairs are available for hire. It's unashamedly old-fashioned and all the better for it — the kind of place where you sit with a book and an ice cream and forget about everything else. The view across to Pulteney Bridge is the gardens' greatest asset — particularly beautiful in the morning light or at sunset. In spring, the flower beds are spectacular. It's tiny compared to Victoria Park, but its location, views, and gentle atmosphere make it one of the most pleasant spots in Bath for a quiet half-hour. Pack a flask of tea and a good novel.
