Columbia Road Flower Market
About
Every Sunday morning, a narrow Victorian street in east London transforms into one of the most joyful places in the city. Columbia Road Flower Market has been running since 1869, and the tradition of Cockney traders bellowing their prices over armfuls of peonies and sunflowers is alive and thriving. The whole street smells incredible. The market runs from 8am to about 3pm, but the rhythm of the day matters. Arrive at 8am for the best selection and elbow room. Come at 2pm for the best deals — traders slash prices to clear stock, and you can walk away with enormous bunches for a few pounds. The shops that line the street are worth exploring too: vintage homeware, independent perfumers, ceramics studios, and a couple of excellent bakeries. Combine it with a walk through the surrounding streets — Columbia Road feeds into Ezra Street and Hackney Road, where you'll find more independent shops and some cracking pubs. The Royal Oak on Columbia Road does a proper Sunday roast if you time it right.
Opening Times
Sundays only, 8:00-15:00. Best stock early morning, best deals after 14:00.
