About
Sub Club is the longest-running underground dance club in the world, and it's a Glasgow institution. Open since 1987, this basement venue on Jamaica Street has hosted every significant DJ in electronic music and remains one of the best places on earth to hear house and techno on a proper sound system. The Subculture and Optimo nights are legendary. The room is intimate — capacity around 400 — with a low ceiling and a sound system that hits you physically. The crowd is knowledgeable and up for it. There's none of the pretension you get at comparable clubs elsewhere; this is Glasgow, and folk are here to dance. The door policy is friendly but firm — don't be wasted before you arrive. Queues form early for the big nights, so get there for opening if you want in without a long wait. It gets hot, it gets sweaty, and it's absolutely magnificent. If you care about electronic music at all, Sub Club is a pilgrimage.
