About

Otley Road, Headingley, Leeds LS6 3AB

Headingley is Leeds's student heartland — a suburb north of the city centre that's been the university quarter for decades and has the energy, pubs, and food to prove it. Otley Road is the main strip — Indian restaurants (Akbar's is a Leeds institution), pubs, vintage shops, and cafés serving a young, diverse crowd. The area has a proper community feel despite the student population. Headingley Cricket Ground is one of the great cricket grounds in England — home of Yorkshire County Cricket Club and a regular Test match venue. The atmosphere during an Ashes Test here is electric. The ground has seen some of cricket's most legendary moments, including Ben Stokes's extraordinary Ashes innings in 2019. Hyde Park, between Headingley and the university, has the Hyde Park Picture House — a Grade II listed arthouse cinema that's been showing films since 1914 and is one of the last surviving gas-lit cinemas in the country. The Brudenell Social Club, in the neighbouring streets, is one of the best small music venues in the country — a working men's club that books incredible bands. The original Weetwood brewery is nearby too.
