Glasgow Film Festival is one of the best and friendliest film festivals in the UK — a ten-day celebration of cinema across Glasgow's venues, with a programme that balances premieres and previews with retrospectives, cult screenings, and innovative events. The Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) is the festival's home, but screenings pop up everywhere from museums to warehouses. The festival has a brilliant knack for creative programming — surprise screenings, immersive film events, and themed strands that go beyond simply showing films. The horror strand, FrightFest Glasgow, is a highlight. The audience Q&As are excellent. The whole thing feels like it's run by people who genuinely love cinema. Glasgow is one of the best cities in the UK for cinema culture generally — the GFT is a gorgeous art deco auditorium — and the festival amplifies that energy. Tickets are affordable compared to London festivals. The sociable atmosphere in the GFT bar between screenings is part of the experience. A fantastic festival that deserves a bigger national profile.
