About

1081 Argyle Street, Glasgow G3 8ND

The Hidden Lane is exactly what it sounds like — a cobbled lane tucked behind Argyle Street in Finnieston that most people walk past without noticing. Behind the tenement buildings, a network of converted garages and workshops houses over 100 artists' studios, vintage shops, a tearoom, and a wonderful independent cinema (the Hidden Lane Cinema, which seats about 20 people on mismatched sofas). The tearoom is the social hub — a cosy, colourful space decorated with vintage finds, serving proper tea and excellent homemade cakes. The studios are mostly working spaces, but many open their doors during Glasgow's Open Studios weekends and you can buy directly from artists. The atmosphere is creative, community-minded, and utterly charming. It's one of those places that could only exist in Glasgow — rents in other cities would have killed it years ago. Go for a cup of tea and a slice of cake, browse whatever studios are open, and feel like you've discovered a secret. Which, despite being well-known locally, it still somehow manages to feel like.
