The Clydeside Distillery
About
The Clydeside Distillery sits in a beautifully converted pump house on the banks of the Clyde, right next to the Rotunda at the north end of the Clyde Tunnel. It's a working single malt whisky distillery that's been producing spirit since 2017, and the tours are excellent — informative, unhurried, and with a proper tasting at the end. The building is gorgeous — a Victorian pump house with original features retained alongside gleaming copper pot stills. The tour covers the history of whisky on the Clyde (there were once over 30 distilleries along the river), the distilling process, and the story of how this building was rescued and converted. The warehouse experience lets you see (and smell) the casks maturing. The gift shop is dangerous if you like whisky — a strong selection of Scottish malts alongside their own bottlings. The café has views over the Clyde. It's a great complement to a visit to the Riverside Museum, which is a short walk along the river. Book tours in advance, especially at weekends.
