About

Camden Lock Place, London NW1 8AF

Camden Market is actually several interconnected markets sprawling along the Regent's Canal — Camden Lock Market, the Stables Market, Buck Street Market, and more. Together they form one of London's most famous and eclectic shopping destinations, drawing over 100,000 visitors on a busy weekend. The atmosphere is pure creative chaos: vintage clothing next to handmade jewellery, international street food next to leather workshops, all soundtracked by buskers and the general buzz of north London. The Stables Market (in the old Pickfords horse hospital) is the most interesting architecturally — converted horse stalls and cobbled passageways house independent designers and antique dealers. The street food in the main market hall is brilliant: Thai, Ethiopian, Venezuelan, Japanese — you can eat your way around the world for under a tenner. Camden is at its best on weekdays when you can actually breathe and browse. Weekends are heaving but have more stalls open. Walk along the canal towpath towards Regent's Park for a quieter escape, or head to the Jazz Café or Electric Ballroom nearby for live music in the evening.
