About
Contact is Manchester's home for young people's theatre and one of the most important youth arts organisations in the country. The building near the university campus programmes work by, with, and for young people aged 13-30, and the result is consistently some of the most energetic, relevant, and boundary-pushing theatre in Manchester. The programming includes new writing by emerging playwrights, physical theatre, spoken word, hip-hop theatre, and experimental work that bigger institutions wouldn't risk. Many of the artists who've come through Contact have gone on to significant careers. The atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious — this is a venue where young creatives feel ownership. Ticket prices are deliberately kept low to remove financial barriers, and the café-bar is a genuine community gathering space. It's the kind of venue that makes you optimistic about the future of theatre. If you want to see what the next generation of theatre-makers are doing, this is where to find them.
