Hatch
About
Hatch is a collection of independent food and drink traders housed in repurposed shipping containers on Oxford Road — Manchester's answer to the question 'how do you create a vibrant food scene in a gap site?' The traders rotate but the quality stays consistently high: expect everything from Nepalese dumplings to loaded fries, bubble tea to craft beer. The atmosphere is casual and communal — grab food from one container, a drink from another, and find a seat at the shared tables. On warm evenings the outdoor seating fills with students, office workers, and families. Regular events include DJs, live music, quizzes, and seasonal markets. Hatch sits in the heart of Manchester's student and cultural quarter, right between the universities and HOME arts centre. It's a perfect example of Manchester's talent for creating something brilliant from nothing — the containers might be temporary, but the community they've built is real. It's also a launchpad for food businesses — several traders have gone on to open permanent restaurants after cutting their teeth here.
