About
HOME is Manchester's centre for contemporary theatre, art, and film — a purpose-built complex on First Street that opened in 2015 and quickly established itself as one of the most important arts venues outside London. It houses two theatre spaces, five cinema screens, a gallery, and a buzzing ground-floor bar and restaurant. The theatre programme is ambitious and international, with a particular strength in new writing and co-productions with international companies. The cinema programme rivals the BFI — independent, world cinema, classics, and special events programmed with real intelligence. The gallery hosts free exhibitions by contemporary artists. The building itself is a striking angular glass structure that lights up at night. The ground-floor bar is a genuine social hub — busy before and after shows, popular with the creative community, and serving decent food and drink. It's the kind of arts venue that doesn't feel intimidating or exclusive — everyone's welcome, the prices are fair, and the quality is consistently high.
