About

6-7 Queen Street, Bath BA1 1HE

The Raven is Bath's best pub — a proper, no-nonsense, real-ale boozer on Queen Street that has been fiercely independent since 1790. It's famous locally for two things: consistently excellent real ales (six hand-pulls, regularly rotated, always in perfect condition) and homemade pies that are genuinely outstanding. The interior is small, characterful, and unapologetically traditional — wooden floors, a real fire in winter, no TV, no music, and a clientele that ranges from Bath University professors to local tradespeople to tourists who've been pointed here by knowledgeable friends. The pies are baked daily on the premises and come in varieties like steak and kidney, chicken and mushroom, and seasonal specials — proper pastry, generous filling, proper pies. It's not trying to be anything other than what it is: a genuinely great pub that serves genuinely great beer and genuinely great pies. The upstairs room is available for quieter drinking. It gets busy at peak times (especially Friday evenings), so arrive early or be prepared to stand. No food service on Sundays. A Bath institution.
