Thermae Bath Spa
About
Thermae Bath Spa is the only place in Britain where you can bathe in naturally hot mineral-rich water — the same thermal springs that attracted the Romans 2,000 years ago. The modern spa building (designed by Nicholas Grimshaw) houses several pools, steam rooms, and treatment areas, but the headline attraction is the open-air rooftop pool: floating in steaming mineral water while gazing across Bath's Georgian rooftops and the Abbey is one of the most memorable experiences in England. The water is naturally heated to 33.5°C and rich in over 42 different minerals. The Minerva Bath (the main indoor pool) has lazy river jets and whirlpool areas. The four aromatic steam rooms each have a different infusion. The rooftop pool, though smaller, is where the magic happens — especially at dusk or on cold winter days when the steam rises dramatically against the skyline. Book a Twilight Package for the best experience — two hours from 4pm or later, when the rooftop pool is at its most atmospheric. Standard sessions are two hours. Bring your own swimwear or buy it there. Towels and robes are provided. The Cross Bath (a separate smaller pool in an 18th-century listed building) can be booked privately for groups. It's directly opposite the Roman Baths, making the combination irresistible.
