Little Venice
About
Little Venice is where the Regent's Canal meets the Grand Union Canal in a wide tree-lined basin in Maida Vale — and it's one of London's most unexpectedly tranquil spots. Colourful narrowboats line the waterways, weeping willows trail in the water, and waterside cafés serve coffee to a soundtrack of ducks and distant church bells. It feels like a village dropped into Zone 2. The best way to experience Little Venice is on foot. Walk along the towpath from Warwick Avenue tube, then follow the Regent's Canal all the way to Camden Lock (about 45 minutes) — it's one of London's loveliest walks, passing through Regent's Park and London Zoo (you can hear the animals from the towpath). Or take a canal boat trip: Jason's Trip and the London Waterbus Company both run scheduled services. The Puppet Theatre Barge — a 50-seat puppet theatre inside a converted barge — is a magical experience for children and adults alike. Bring bread for the swans and coots, grab a coffee from Canal Café, and enjoy the fact that this much peace exists inside London.
