About

8 Southwark Street, London SE1 1TL

Borough Market is the kind of place that makes you fall in love with food all over again. Tucked under the railway arches near London Bridge, this is London's oldest food market — traders have been selling here in some form since the 13th century. Today it's a sprawling maze of artisan producers, street food stalls, specialist cheese shops, and fishmongers that would make a Michelin chef weep. The best way to do Borough is to arrive hungry and graze. Grab a raclette from Kappacasein, a scotch egg from Ginger Pig, a doughnut from Bread Ahead, and an Ethiopian coffee from the roasters near the entrance. The full market runs Wednesday to Saturday, but the smaller weekday market on Monday and Tuesday is much calmer and still has great options. A word of warning: Saturday lunchtime is absolutely rammed. If you want to actually enjoy the market rather than shuffle through it, aim for a Thursday morning or Friday before noon.
