About

Bathwick Fields, Bath BA2 6JZ

The Bath Skyline Walk is a six-mile circular walk managed by the National Trust that loops around the hills above Bath, offering constantly changing views of the city below and the surrounding Somerset countryside. It's one of the best ways to experience Bath's stunning landscape setting — the city nestled in a bowl of green hills, the River Avon winding through the valley. The route passes through ancient woodlands, wildflower meadows, an Iron Age hillfort, and Somerset farmland. Highlights include the views from Bathwick Fields, the beech woods above Claverton, and the descent through Prior Park. The walk is well-waymarked with National Trust markers and can be joined at several points. Allow 3-4 hours for the full circuit. The terrain is mostly gentle with a few steeper sections. Wear good walking shoes and bring water. The walk is beautiful in all seasons but particularly stunning in spring (wildflowers) and autumn (beech colour). It's free, accessible from the city centre, and proves that Bath's beauty extends far beyond its Georgian streets.
