About

730 Great Western Road, Glasgow G12 0UE

The Botanics sit at the top of Byres Road in the heart of the West End, and they're one of Glasgow's most loved green spaces. The star attraction is the Kibble Palace — a magnificent Victorian glasshouse filled with tree ferns, orchids, and tropical plants. It's one of the finest glasshouses in Britain, and on a grey Glasgow day the warmth and greenery inside feel like stepping into another world. The main range of glasshouses behind the Kibble Palace houses collections from all over the world — desert plants, tropical rainforest, and a begonia collection that's genuinely world-class. The gardens outside are beautifully maintained with a herb garden, arboretum, and riverside walks along the Kelvin. The Botanics are a proper neighbourhood park — students from the university studying on the grass, dog walkers, joggers, parents with prams. It's free, it's beautiful, and on a sunny day you'll struggle to find a bench. The tearoom does a decent coffee. Perfect combined with a wander down Byres Road afterwards.
