Stockbridge Market
About
Stockbridge Sunday Market is one of Edinburgh's best-kept secrets — a small but perfectly formed weekly market in the handsome New Town neighbourhood of Stockbridge. Around 40 stalls set up along Saunders Street every Sunday, selling artisan bread, local cheeses, Scottish charcuterie, hand-poured candles, vintage homeware, and some outstanding street food. The quality control is evident — this isn't a market full of generic tat. The producers are local and passionate, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The crêpe stall, the venison burgers, and the Ethiopian coffee are highlights. The market backs onto the Water of Leith, so you can combine your visit with a riverside walk. Stockbridge itself is a lovely neighbourhood to explore — independent bookshops, charity shops with surprisingly good stock (wealthy area donations), excellent delis, and characterful pubs. The Botanic Gardens are a 10-minute walk away. It's the kind of neighbourhood that makes you want to move to Edinburgh.
