About
The Ashes is cricket's oldest and most intense rivalry — England vs Australia in a five-match Test series that has defined the sport since 1882. When the Ashes are in England (every other series), five of England's great cricket grounds host matches over the summer, and the atmosphere at each is electric. Test cricket is a five-day game, and the rhythm of watching a day's play — the ebb and flow, the tension of a close finish, the lazy pleasure of a sunny afternoon with cricket — is one of England's great sporting experiences. The Barmy Army (England's travelling supporters) create a festive atmosphere. The grounds include Lord's, The Oval, Headingley, Edgbaston, and Old Trafford. Tickets for Ashes Tests are in extremely high demand — especially for Lord's and the first day of each match. Ballot registration opens months in advance. Day 5 tickets, if the match lasts that long, are sometimes available at reduced prices. Bring sunscreen, layers, and a willingness to sit and watch cricket unfold at its own pace.
