About
Wimbledon is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world — two weeks of tennis on grass courts in south-west London that remain the pinnacle of the sport. The All England Club maintains traditions that other Grand Slams have abandoned: all-white clothing, strawberries and cream, and an atmosphere of restrained excitement that's uniquely British. The public ballot (lottery) and the famous Queue (camp overnight for day-of-play tickets) are the main routes to entry. The Queue is a genuine Wimbledon experience — thousands of people camp on Wimbledon Park the night before, governed by an unwritten code of etiquette and community spirit. Centre Court and No. 1 Court host the biggest names. The outside courts (Grounds Pass) offer intimate tennis where you're close enough to hear players breathe. Rain delays, Henman Hill (now Murray Mound), and Pimm's are part of the ritual.
