Altrincham Market
About
Altrincham Market is the success story that sparked Manchester's food hall revolution. When the market was relaunched in 2014 with a curated selection of independent food and drink traders in the restored Victorian market house, it transformed a struggling town centre into one of the most exciting food destinations in the north of England. The food hall houses around 15 permanent traders: wood-fired pizza, Thai street food, craft beer, artisan bread, cheese, and more — all genuinely excellent. The outdoor market (Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday) adds fresh produce, flowers, and independent stalls. The quality control is fierce — traders are selected and standards are high. Altrincham itself has benefited enormously — the surrounding streets now have independent restaurants, cafés, and shops that make the whole area worth a wander. It's 25 minutes from Manchester Piccadilly on the Metrolink, and the tram drops you right in the centre. On a sunny Saturday, the outdoor seating fills with families, couples, and groups grazing their way through the stalls. It feels like a small-town market square that happens to have city-quality food.
