Zip World at Penrhyn Quarry is home to Velocity 2 — the fastest zip line in the world and the longest in Europe. You're strapped into a harness and launched across a mile-long quarry at speeds up to 100mph, with the slate walls dropping away beneath you and Snowdonia spread out ahead. It's absolutely terrifying and absolutely brilliant. The quarry also has Bounce Below — a series of enormous trampolines, walkways, and slides installed inside vast underground slate caverns, lit with neon lights. It's surreal and enormous fun. There's also a tree-top adventure course and a quarry tour that tells the industrial story of this vast landscape. Book everything in advance — the zip line in particular sells out, especially in school holidays and weekends. Minimum age and weight restrictions apply. The café at the top has spectacular quarry views. Zip World has other sites across North Wales (Zip World Fforest near Betws-y-Coed, Zip World Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog), each with different activities, but Penrhyn is the flagship. Not cheap, but genuinely once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
