About

10 Mathew Street, Liverpool L2 6RE

The Cavern Club is where The Beatles played 292 times between 1961 and 1963, and it remains the most famous music venue in the world. The original club was demolished in 1973 (to build an underground rail loop, of all things), but the current venue — rebuilt in 1984 using many of the original bricks — occupies the same spot on Mathew Street and recreates the low-ceilinged, atmospheric cellar where pop music was changed forever. Live music plays every day from lunchtime — cover bands, tribute acts, and original artists all take the stage. The atmosphere in the brick-arched basement, even 60 years later, is electric. Friday and Saturday nights are packed and sweaty in the best possible way. The Cavern also hosts regular original music nights showcasing new Liverpool talent. The Mathew Street area around the club is Liverpool's nightlife epicentre — wall-to-wall bars and music venues. The Cavern Pub across the street has more live music and a terrace. Entry to the Cavern Club is usually free during the day (with live music) and charged for evening shows. Whether you're a Beatles devotee or not, the historical significance and the ongoing energy of the place is undeniable.
