About

Brandon Hill, Park Street, Bristol BS1 5RR

Brandon Hill is Bristol's oldest park — a green hillside in the centre of the city crowned by Cabot Tower, a 32-metre red sandstone tower built in 1897 to commemorate John Cabot's voyage to North America from Bristol in 1497. Climb the 108 spiral steps to the top for panoramic views across the city, the harbour, and on clear days across to Wales. The park itself is a lovely, slightly wild green space — less manicured than a typical city park, with winding paths, wildflower meadows, and old trees. It's a favourite lunchtime spot for workers from the nearby offices and university. The south-facing slopes catch the sun beautifully on warm afternoons. It's completely free, the tower is free to climb, and it's right in the centre of the city between the harbourside and Clifton. The views from the top are among the best in Bristol — you can pick out the Suspension Bridge, the cathedral, Temple Meads, and the hills beyond. Combined with a walk down to the harbour or up to Clifton, it's a perfect city centre break.
