About
Chapter is Cardiff's most important independent arts venue — a multi-artform centre in Canton that programmes cinema, theatre, visual art, and live performance with a commitment to challenging, international work. The building — a converted school — has been a creative hub since 1971 and houses studios, galleries, two cinemas, a theatre, and one of the best arts centre bars in Wales. The cinema programme is consistently excellent: independent releases, world cinema, documentaries, and archive screenings curated with real care. The art galleries host free exhibitions by contemporary Welsh and international artists. The theatre programme mixes new writing with touring work from companies that might not appear at bigger venues. The café-bar (Caffi) is a destination in its own right — good food, good coffee, and a genuine social hub for Cardiff's creative community. Chapter has the kind of warm, inclusive atmosphere that makes you want to become a regular. It's in Canton, about 15 minutes' walk from the city centre, and it's the beating heart of Cardiff's independent arts scene.
