About

Bute Park, Cardiff CF10 3ER

Bute Park is Cardiff's green heart — 130 acres of parkland, arboretum, and formal gardens stretching from the back of Cardiff Castle along the River Taff. It's one of the finest urban parks in Wales, and the mature trees (some dating back to the 1800s when the Bute family landscaped the estate) give it a grandeur that most city parks can't match. The park flows seamlessly from the castle grounds into Pontcanna Fields and on to Llandaff, creating a green corridor that runs for miles along the river. The arboretum contains over 3,000 trees from around the world, and the wildflower meadows are spectacular in spring and summer. The Summerhouse Café in the park is a lovely spot for coffee. Follow the Taff Trail through the park for a riverside walk or cycle — it connects the city centre to Cardiff Bay and eventually stretches all the way to Brecon. The park hosts events throughout the year, including the RHS Cardiff Flower Show. On a sunny day, half of Cardiff seems to be here — picnicking, playing, or just lying on the grass watching the clouds. It's free, beautiful, and right in the centre of town.
