About

Pontcanna Fields, Cardiff CF11 9JR

Pontcanna Fields is a large, flat expanse of playing fields and green space that connects Bute Park to Llandaff Fields, forming part of Cardiff's extraordinary green corridor along the River Taff. It's less formal than Bute Park — essentially a huge open meadow with rugby pitches, football goals, and a lot of space to breathe. What makes Pontcanna special is its role as the neighbourhood's communal living room. On a sunny weekend, the Fields fill with barbecues, frisbee games, dog walkers, runners doing laps, and groups of friends sprawled on blankets. The surrounding neighbourhood of Pontcanna and Canton has some of Cardiff's best independent cafés and restaurants — Brod (Scandinavian bakery), Milkwood, and the Conway are all worth seeking out. The Taff Trail runs along the edge, connecting to Bute Park in one direction and Llandaff in the other. It's flat, accessible, and the kind of unpretentious green space that makes a neighbourhood feel like a community. Not a tourist attraction, but a genuine slice of Cardiff life at its most relaxed.
