About

Bold Street, Liverpool L1 4DN

Bold Street is Liverpool's most interesting high street — a steep, bustling corridor of independent restaurants, cafés, vintage shops, and specialist retailers that runs from the bombed-out church (St Luke's) at the top to the city centre at the bottom. If you want to understand Liverpool's creative, food-obsessed, fiercely independent character, start here. The food is extraordinary for a single street: Ethiopian, Persian, Italian, Japanese, Lebanese, Nepalese, Mexican, and more — Liverpool's multicultural character condensed into a few hundred metres. Maray (Middle Eastern small plates) and Leaf (tea, coffee, and live music in a beautiful art deco building) are particular highlights. The coffee scene is strong — Bold Street Coffee and others keep the caffeine flowing. The vintage and independent shops hold their own against the restaurants: charity shops with remarkable stock, vintage clothing stores, record shops, and specialist bookshops. The atmosphere is energetic and unpretentious — Scousers browsing alongside tourists, students grabbing lunch alongside gallery owners. It's the street that best represents what Liverpool is right now: creative, diverse, and unapologetically itself.
