About

2060 Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow G43 1AT

Pollok Country Park is Glasgow's largest park — over 360 acres of woodland, gardens, and open grassland on the south side of the city. It's home to a herd of Highland cattle (a reliable photo opportunity), beautiful formal gardens around Pollok House, and the Burrell Collection, which reopened in 2022 after a major refurbishment. The Burrell Collection is extraordinary — over 9,000 objects amassed by the shipping magnate Sir William Burrell and gifted to Glasgow in 1944. Medieval tapestries, Chinese ceramics, Impressionist paintings, stained glass, and ancient artefacts, all displayed in a beautifully redesigned modern gallery that floods natural light onto the collection. It's one of the finest personal art collections ever assembled, and it's completely free. The park itself is brilliant for walking — woodland trails, the White Cart Water running through it, and enough space to feel properly rural despite being four miles from George Square. The Pollok House kitchen garden has a good café. Get the bus from the city centre — it's about 20 minutes.
