About

Walcot Street, Bath BA1 5BG

Walcot Street is Bath's artisan quarter — a long, slightly ramshackle street north of the centre that's home to the city's most interesting independent shops, studios, and eateries. Where the rest of Bath can feel polished and preserved, Walcot Street has edge and energy: vintage furniture dealers, artists' studios, craft workshops, secondhand bookshops, and some genuinely unique businesses. The Walcot Street market (Saturday mornings) adds to the atmosphere with local produce, vintage finds, and crafts. The Walcot Reclamation Yard is an Aladdin's cave of architectural salvage — fireplaces, doors, tiles, and garden ornaments sourced from old buildings. The charity shops here are notably better than average (Bath's demographic means the stock is excellent). The street connects the genteel shopping of Milsom Street with the residential neighbourhood of Walcot, and the character shifts noticeably as you walk. It's the part of Bath where creatives, makers, and independent spirits gravitate — less pristine than the main tourist streets but much more interesting. Combine with a visit to the Walcot Street end of the canal towpath for a lovely walk.
