The Fleece
About
The Fleece is a legendary Bristol music venue — a 450-capacity room above a pub on St Thomas Street that has been launching bands since 1982. The list of artists who played here before they were famous reads like a hall of fame: Oasis, Radiohead, Amy Winehouse, Jeff Buckley, and hundreds more. The walls are covered in old gig posters and the atmosphere is pure grassroots music. The room is intimate and sweaty — low ceilings, a simple stage, and a crowd close enough to touch the performers. The sound system has been refined over decades and suits the room perfectly. The programming spans indie, punk, metal, folk, hip-hop, and everything in between, with a mix of established artists and rising talent. The venue has survived multiple threats of closure over the years, each time saved by community campaigns — Bristol cares about this place. It's the kind of venue where music legends were born and where the next ones are being discovered right now. Tickets are usually affordable, the bar is no-frills, and the nights are memorable.
